Frank Lloyd Wright masterworks
Architecture is an art which is exposed for everybody’s eyes. When the pieces of an architectural structure don’t match, everybody can see it. Frank Lloyd Wright said that "A doctor can bury his mistakes, whereas an architect can only advise his customer to plant vine" (in order to hide the mistakes). He did not create simply architecture, but he created masterworks. His houses were radically different from the styles which had already been known; he created something original in the domain of architecture, even if at first his works were accepted skeptically by most people. Glass, steel, concrete were the new materials which offered new design options. Frank Lloyd Wright was well known for his organic architecture, a style in which the environment was reflected in the structure of a building. Since the 1890s he elaborated the famous style of prairie houses, a series of low houses, very rare, with roofs in console. After some time he diversified his style, using concrete and exploring some geometrical shapes. Among his masterpieces we can quote his house from Wisconsin, Taliesin East (1925), in the style of prairie houses; Falling Water, not far from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania (1936), a waterfall house (with rare terraces, in console, and a water fall) and Guggenheim Museum from New York (1959), a ramp in spiral, rising from a circular plan.
Another masterwork of this great architect was the Unitarian Unity Temple, in which he used harmoniously the interior space. Frank Lloyd Wright’s works are inspired by nature and they are long lasting, healthy and varied. They develop like a lively body from the essence towards the exterior. Even if the master does not exist any more, his masterpieces are integrated in the present continuous and they seem to have a different aspect every day. They are flexible, like a water flow and in the same time satisfy social, physical and spiritual necessities. In addition they are unique and surprising, expressing the rhythm of the music and the power of dance.
Other buildings belonging to Wright are Sugar Loaf Mountain Planetarium or the store C.V. Morrs (1948-1949) from San Francisco. Guggenheim Museum has steep walls. That is why at first the pictures could be exposed with difficulty at the beginning, but after the works realized in 1992 by architects from New York, from the company „Gwathmey Siegel and Associates”, these difficulties were eliminated. Some recent works as well, following in general Frank Lloyd Wright’s concept, provided new additional space, bringing the museum to international standards. Nowadays it seems that Wright’s concepts are appreciated, not only in the exterior design, but in the interior design as well, in the domain of furniture, lamps or decorations. To conclude, Frank Lloyd Wright created a school of architecture. His masterworks can be considered guiding lines for the young architects of our times. The harmonious combination between material, location, light, color and destination of the building became representative for this unique man. He was famous not only in his continent but all over the world he opened a new direction in architecture.
